May is the month when the majority of our winter residents have returned to their northern homes, and the park becomes quiet. Those of us who live here year-round and the remaining residents with northern homes enjoy the transition. We enjoy this time of year but also look forward to everyone returning next season.
Our new manager, Tracy Roux, will be a good manager for Golf Lakes. She has some big shoes to fill, and I think she can do the job. I am looking forward to working with her.
During April the Board worked with Tracy on planning the summer jobs. These include rip rap along the canal behind the clubhouse, paving, sanitary sewer lining, and resurfacing the pool and installing new pool equipment. Those are the major jobs for the summer and are only a few of what will be done. The work at the pool will start in October, and the entire pool complex will be closed during that time. It may take longer than a month to accomplish the pool work. The laundry area and fitness center will be open. The board will also have an engineer look at the rippled area on 5th Street and give us advice on what is needed to repair the street.
The 29th of May is our Memorial Day Picnic. Bring your own box lunch and remember our WWI veterans with us. There will be other activities along with the Flag Ceremony which begins at 11 AM at the flagpole in front of the clubhouse.
To those residents who have already gone north for the summer, we hope you had a safe journey and have a great summer. To those leaving during May, be safe on the roads or in the air and have a great summer. My wife and I hope to see all of you in the fall.
